The Dmitri Ensemble is a performing ensemble based around the central core of a string ensemble, committed to presenting both unjustly neglected and newly-penned works with an innovative approach to engaging concert programming. Under the direction of the co-founder and Principal Conductor, Graham Ross, it has worked alongside living composers, including Giles Swayne and James MacMillan, and has given premières in Cambridge and London.
In 2008 it launched a major project, PASSIONTIDE 2008, with performances in Norwich Cathedral, St John's, Smith Square and St Paul's Cathedral, culminating in a recording of works by James MacMillan marking the Ensemble's debut disc for NAXOS, which since its release at Easter 2009 has received rave reviews. The Ensemble has since recorded a second disc of previously-unrecorded works by Vaughan Williams, conducted by Sir David Willcocks, due for release on 27 July 2009. Future recording plans for 2009/10 include premiere recordings of works by Judith Bingham and Giles Swayne.
